Certificate of Analysis Explained: How to Read a COA
What Is a Certificate of Analysis?
A Certificate of Analysis (COA) is a document issued by a testing laboratory that reports the results of analytical testing performed on a specific batch of product. For research peptides, a COA typically includes purity data, identity confirmation, and sometimes endotoxin and sterility testing results.
Key Sections of a Peptide COA
1. Product Identification
This section lists the peptide name, sequence, molecular weight, and batch/lot number. Verify that the sequence matches the peptide you ordered.
2. HPLC Purity
The HPLC section reports the purity as an area percentage from a chromatographic analysis. Look for purity of 95% or above for general research applications.
3. Mass Spectrometry (MS)
Mass spectrometry confirms the identity of the peptide by measuring its molecular mass. The observed mass should be within plus or minus 1 Da of the calculated molecular weight.
4. Endotoxin Testing (LAL)
The Limulus Amebocyte Lysate (LAL) test measures endotoxin levels. For research peptides intended for cell culture or in vivo studies, endotoxin levels should be less than 1 EU/mg.
Why We Publish Every COA
Crush Research publishes the full COA for every batch we sell, directly on our product pages and testing results page. We believe transparency is non-negotiable when it comes to research-grade materials.
